What can I expect from my first visit with a Counsellor?
At your first session, your counsellor will discuss your concerns and conduct a comprehensive initial assessment. Your counsellor will also help you understand and elucidiate what you hope to achieve with your counselling therapy, and will talk to you about the type of counselling treatments that best suit your situation and needs. A plan may be made for future sessions including regular assessment and evaluation of the progress of therapy.
If you are in the midst of a difficult emotional situation, or you a struggling with your mental health, or your relationship is at breaking point, your counsellor may also suggest and discuss some practical strategies and tips that can be applied immediately to help you deal with your current challenges. In your very first session, you can feel comfortable raising any questions or concerns you may have. Your initial session and all subsequent sessions will be just under one hour in duration.
How many Counselling sessions will I need?
The amount and frequency of sessions you need will vary depending on your particular problems, however on average a client will visit a counsellor for between 6 and 12 sessions. However, you may choose to engage in longer term therapy to deal with more entrenched issues or personality styles that have plaid a large part in your life for a longer period of time.
